Unprepared

30Oct08

I am so unprepared for Halloween it’s unreal. No candy, no costume – for Saturday night; hell, I’m late for everything else, one little spooky festival can’t hurt. If I want to avoid death threats tantrums from local children (more often than not, not in costume) and glares from their irritable parents tomorrow, I’ve got [...]

Nana

27Oct08

It’s been a tough 24 hours. Lloyd’s nan died yesterday; she had been ill for a while, so whilst not wholly unexpected, it’s a sad shock all the same. She was the last of Lloyd’s grandparents, after his grandad died early on this year. We visited her a couple of weeks ago, and it was [...]

When I was much younger than I am today, I was quite scared of dogs. Not just the big, barking, teeth-everywhere kind, but pretty much all dogs. I was never one of those kids who begged my parents for a puppy; cats, rabbits and hamsters were my thing, well within my comfort zone. I have [...]

Slow burn

22Oct08

It’s apparent that I’m not feeling very bloggy at the moment, there’s a distinct lack of posting (and inspiration). In the end I amassed a total of 10 hats for The Big Knit – a bit disappointing, but the restarting-many-times problem really slowed me down! My hands are now, of course, itching to be kept [...]

I’m certain there is a list longer than I am tall, of films I should see that I haven’t, so I reserve the right to change my mind an infinite number of times in the future when I start working my way through them! But I love American Beauty. I don’t care whether other people [...]

A lovely pile of books; the ones I got for my birthday recently, plus a stack of chick-lit from the library for easy bedtime reading to send me off to sleep. I’m also addicted to magazines. I really will read almost anything.

Either this week has been wholly uneventful, or it’s simply that I’ve been too gloomy and pathetic to achieve anything. There’s no real reason for it; the weather is better than it was for most of the so-called summer, work hasn’t been too tough, I don’t seem to have a cold at the moment… I [...]

I love baking: it’s like science you can eat. At least, I hope these are edible; I always get that “Is it going to be cooked in the middle?” anxiety whenever I make anything remotely cake-like. Some of these feel squidgier than I’d like underneath, but any longer in the oven and they’d be burnt [...]

Being someone who has to be grabbed around the wrist and pulled away from kitchenware shops, this topic wasn’t likely to cause me any trouble. Except perhaps, narrowing it down to just one item. So I didn’t bother; these are some of my favourite kitcheny things – generally if it’s pink, it’s in. [...]

I’m in the middle of a self-indulgent weekend of sleeping in, shopping, and trashy tv. Lloyd is away on a stag weekend (pity the narrowboats of the Norfolk broads), so I’ve just got the animals for company for a couple of days. There’s a great little fire going in the woodburner, Sex & The City [...]
